The Empire State building is a building that is iconic for New York City. People have made songs about it, in films if there is an defining scene showing New York City then you can bet that one of the buildings shown will be this one. It is a building that is sometimes considered as the eight wonder of the world and has been rated as one of the seven wonders of the modern world by the American Society of Civil Engineers. There are many people who have apartments for rent in New York City try to play on the fact that you have a great view of the building to try to bump up the price.

It was the tallest building in the world for over forty years when construction finished in 1931. It's height was surpassed by the world trade center in 1972 but after it was destroyed in 2001. The Empire State building became the tallest building in New York City. The building took inspiration from the Reynolds building in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and the Carew Tower in Cincinnati, Ohio. Funny enough the building was actually designed from the top first. The construction took 410 days and was part of the race for the title of the world's tallest building. The building opened on May 1, 1931.

One of the funny things about this building is that people often confused it with the Chrysler building. As both have been used in many publications, pictures or backdrops in videos and for someone who has never seen either then you can understand why it happens. Here's a few tips so that you can differentiate between the two, the empire state building has a more boxy look to it especially at the top while the Chrysler building although similar looking at the bottom the top of it has a terraced crown. Also the Empire state building is taller than the older Chrysler building.

Not many people know though that the building isn't just a place where tourists go to, actually the building's purpose is to be used as office space. But you can most probably guess that the space isn't cheap nor available so easily. Today the building is currently undergoing some renovations and that amount up to $550 million whilst $120 million of it will be used in order to transform the building into a more Eco friendly one and one that uses its energy more efficiently. At the time the building cost

When it comes to the media Empire State building has been quite a bit. In films particularly it has been featured quite a lot, maybe the most iconic scene when relating to this building is in the climax of King Kong. The giant ape scales the building before he gets shot down by aero planes. Both the original and the 2005 remake of the film used the iconic tower not only to show the size of the monster Ape but also because the Empire state building was considered an ideal setting. It has also been destroyed a few times in movies as well for example it was destroyed in the defining scene in independence day that saw many of the iconic structures around the world being destroyed y the aliens, also was burnt to ashes in Knowing by a solar flare and Frozen in a new Ice age in the Day after tomorrow.

The building brings a lot of tourists, it is estimated that over 110 million people have visited the observation deck making it one of the world's most popular observation deck. The main observation deck has been featured in a few movies and television shows as well. This is a building that is the symbol of New York City and is one that has stood the test of time. It may not be the tallest building any more but it will be a tall order to replace this as New York's icon.
