This is looking at the Delaware Water Gap, detailing a brief history about the natural park reserve and what there is to do there such as hiking, mountain climbing and other things that people are interested in.

The Delaware water gap lies on the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. But what is a water gap specifically well it is when a river cuts through a mountain range these usually often a practically means for roads and railways. There is a small town of the same name that is located near the gap.

In the Delaware Water Gap has a national recreation area that preserves 70,000 acres of land, which goes along New Jersey and Pennsylvania almost hitting the new York state line. The park was originally thought of as part a plan to get a dam built on the Delaware river by Tocks island in the northern part of Water Gap around 1960. The Dam's purpose would be to control the water levels and help create a lake in the centre of the park and used as a reservoir. But there was massive opposition against the dam that cited environment concerns, also add to the fact that as time went on funds for the dam started to dwindle and to make things worse there were concern over the geological condition of the dam's safety. Which in turn meant that the dam was not built and the government transferred ownership of the property over to the National Park Service. They found themselves owners of what at this point is endangered land but with the help of the government and local communities they developed the recreational facilities and maintained the historic structures that were left.

This is now used for recreational purposes such as hiking which it is well known for. The Red dot trail is considered the main hiking path in the Delaware Water Gap. It can be found near the top of the Kittatinny ridge which makes it a great path as you can get a view of the whole area. With that said though this is one of the biggest trails in the Water Gap as the hike can last roughly an hour and it travels over 600 feet. The path itself though is worn down due to the weather conditions over the years and the high volume of hikers it has seen. There is a blue dot trail that also goes to the top but it is roughly a three mile hike and is a lot less steeper than the red dot trail. There is the Gray dot trail as well which actually intersects with both the blue dot and red dot trails to the top but this is the steepest out of all the trails. It is said that a hike going up the gray dot trail and going down the red dot trail takes two hours and fifteen minutes to do.

There are loads of other activities that you can do in this recreational park is such as rock climbing is another recreational activity that is very popular here with climbs that range from one hundred feet to three hundred feet. Due to the there being a river there are other recreational that take up upon the fact that there is a lot water at your disposal such as canoeing, kayak, rafting and other forms of paddled boats. Then there more common forms of recreation such as swimming and of course fishing. The water gap is a place where one can find themselves with nature and it is no surprise that people choose to take out Poconos rentals as they will get the best out of nature.
