Glenwood Springs is a nice place thanks to its unique location at the meeting of the Colorado River and the Roaring Fork River, this has seen the town as a perfect place stop at. With many choosing this place out of all the
Colorado rentals proves that this place is one of the perfect getaways thanks to its relaxing and cut off nature.
At the Glenwood springs is the Glenwood Cavern which is called the Fairy caves. These are an extensive set of caves that have been around for 4 million years. These caves are the largest show caves that are open to the public in Colorado and they were rated one of the top places to go underground in USA Today. The caves themselves are part of Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. This is a popular tourist themed park set on top of Iron Mountain.
To get to the caves you have to take a tram that travels 4,300 feet to the top of Iron Mountain. These are European styled gondolas, that were the first to be introduced in America. Whilst riding up the mountain you can experience a spectacular view of the Mountains. The Gondolas can hold up to six people and people of all ages can ride them, also they are wheelchair accessible and the ride lasts seven minutes. If the weather is bad then a bus ride will be used instead of the trams for peoples safety.
The park offers various tours through the caves. There is a normal walking tour that lasts 70 minutes, this is a tour in which you will be exploring these huge underground caverns and will take you to a cliff side balcony that will show you panoramic views of both the Glenwood Canyon and the Colorado River. Then there is the Adventure tour which is a 90 minute tour that will see you crawl as much as you walk. This tour is seen as a great way to introduce you to caving and will get you to explore areas that you can't see in the normal walking tour. This is done by squeezing in the tightest nooks and crannies, with a more strenuous tour compared to the normal one hence why it is called adventure tour. But it is the Wild tour that will take the most out of you, as it is a three hour expedition through some of the rarest parts of the caves. It is here you will see the amazing cave formations that lie in the deepest parts of the caves. For some large parts of the tour you will be on stomach crawling so this is definitely for those who have problems relating to type of injury that affects them physically. Also being in a tight space is certainly not for those who are claustrophobic as the smallest space you will go through is roughly 18 inches square.
The park has other attractions for those who don't want to do the more adventurous cave tours or those who want to do something other than the caves. There are a couple of thrill rides that will cater for those who want to more excitement in their life. For those who want to sample speed with sharp turns at their own control then the Alpine coaster is the ideal ride for you. This is an two seated ride that goes down over 3,000 feet down the side of a mountain, also it was the first of its kind in the country. Then there is the ride for those who aren't after of heights or at the least bit edges. As this is where the Giant Canyon Swing will definitely take you over it. It launches you 1,300 feet over the Colorado river at 50 miles per hour. Another thrill ride is the Bungee Trampoline which is fun for all ages. Then there are others things such as an 4D theatre, Laser tag, rock climbing and many others that you should discover when you get there which prove why people rate this place over a lot of things in Colorado.
